On Friday, Bury Grammar School Boys held a Sportsman’s Dinner at The Village Hotel, Bury in aid of the BGSB Sports Campaign to raise money for new Sports Facilities. This includes the upgrade of the Sports Hall and a new Pavilion at the Buckley Wells Playing Fields. This is the second phase of fundraising, as the School community has already raised over £700,000.00 to build the new 3G and MUGA pitches last summer.
Over 200 parents, staff, Old Boys and friends of the School attended the Dinner. Guest Speaker was Gary Neville who spoke about his early days as a footballer growing up in Bury, and regaled the audience with some wonderful stories in the Q&A session, which followed. A magnificent £27,500.00 was raised towards the Sports Campaign Fund.
“It was a fantastic evening, “said Paul Wilde, who is the Honorary Treasurer of the Schools’ Old Boys AFC. “Gary Neville was superb and told some fascinating stories about his experiences in the world of football. We raised a great deal of money for a very worthwhile cause for the School”.
