  • CDT Department

The department aims to promote an understanding of design in the modern world.

    Staff

Mr D Hailwood BEd (Head of Department)
    Mr M J Cooke BEd

    Resources

The department is well resourced and the teaching is directed to the following areas: Resistant Materials, Basic Electronics, Programmable Electronics, Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture.

The two-man department is structured to allow boys maximum access to staff and resources, during and outside lesson time. The department is available at lunchtimes for pupils to follow individual pursuits or to finish work started in lessons.

Lower school classes are split and taught by both members of staff at the same time, thereby allowing a low pupil to staff ratio. The department follows a ‘learning through doing’ ethos, trying to devote as much lesson time to practical work as possible.

    GCSE Electronics Products

Boys undertake a piece of practical work to find an electronic solution to a problem. In addition to the coursework project the boys also have to complete a written examination.

GCE Systems and Control: Systems and Control Technology

The AS and A2 courses offer candidates an opportunity to gain personal satisfaction and a positive experience from working with a variety of systems. The practical problem solving process in this subject encourages independent learning, creativity and innovation.
