High quality, carefully prepared and enthusiastically delivered RS has the potential to have the greatest and the most lasting effect on a child’s mind. It is RS that can provide children with a foundation of values on which to build their lives, give them the opportunity to start discovering who they are and their place in the world and give them a greater understanding of the faith and behaviour of their neighbours. Through RS they are being prepared for life.

    Co-ordinator: Mrs C A Atkinson BSc

    Outline of work

The key to excellent RS is the ability to ?make the connection?. If we make the connection to the child?s world and experiences then our RS will be relevant. A subject that is meaningful and relevant will attract the attention and interest of the pupils. Our RS syllabus is rooted in the concept of ?making the connection?. We have carefully chosen activities to make lessons exciting and informative.

Through RS we seek to ensure that ?what we pass on to our children is not only the painting but also the paint box?. Children must be given the opportunity to choose their own ?colours? and develop their own ?tools?.

    Resources

We have extensive resources for all four religions which we study at the Junior School. These range from artefacts that the boys may handle to posters, CD-ROMs, books and of course we use selected websites to enable RS to be interesting and informative to the boys. We also visit selected places of worship to fit in with our syllabus.
