  • History

History is about enjoying and understanding the past through a variety of different media. It offers opportunities to develop the boys’ sense of identity through learning about the development of Britain, Europe and the world. It also introduces the boys to what is involved in understanding and interpreting the past.

    Co-ordinator: P G Newton MA

    Outline of work

Introitus ( Year 3 ) : Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece.

Transitus I ( Year 4) : Celtic studies, the founding of Rome and the expansion of the Roman Empire, followed by a close look at the Tudors.

Transitus II (Year 5) : The Stuarts. The major project of the Curriculum, the Aztecs, occupies the remainder of the Spring Term and the Summer Term is taken up with the Victorians.

In their final year in the Junior School, the Exitus (Year 6) forms study the Twentieth Century in some depth. Major projects include the First World War, the Depression and the burgeoning music of the 1960s.

    Resources

Various trips are on offer. Exitus have travelled to the Imperial War Museum at Salford Quays and have taken full advantage of the school's Regimental connections with visits to the local Royal Regiment of Fusiliers' Museum.

Speakers are regularly invited to the school. Recent visitors have spoken to the boys about topics the "Mary Rose" and about the effects of the First World War on the local economy.
