Extra-Curricular and Co-Curricular Activities
Learning both in and beyond the classroom is an important part of our ethos and philosophy at Bury Grammar School Boys.
All boys are encouraged to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities in order to extend their interests and skills.
The sports on offer include Football, Cricket, Athletics, Cross Country, Swimming, basketball and fencing. Throughout the age groups the boys have the opportunity to represent the school and their house. The aim is to extend each boy’s ability and skills through coaching and competition at the appropriate level, whilst also enabling them to develop personal skills of teamwork, leadership and friendship.
The boys are given many opportunities to develop their skills and pursue their enthusiasms. A wide range of extra-curricular activities takes place during the extended lunch break. These include Art, Science, Cookery, Choir, Orchestra, Pool, Table Tennis, IT, Drama, Computing, Gardening, Board Games, French and Judo.
We have an extensive outdoor activities programme. This takes the form of day trips in Introitus (Year 3) and Transitus I (Year 4), building up to Ambleside in Transitus II (Year 5) and a residential course at Edale YHA residential centre for Exitus (Year 6). In addition boys from Exitus plan a self-reliant journey to Borrowdale in the Lake District in the summer term.
