Mr Cassidy joined BGS in the Chemistry Department in 1999, becoming Head of Year in 2006, Deputy Head (Administration and Pastoral) in 2010, going on to become Second Master in 2013. In January 2017 he took on responsibility for all staffing matters and standards in educational provision throughout all sections of the Bury Grammar Schools as Head of Staff, and plays a key role in the strategic development of the schools. As an experienced leader respected by pupils and colleagues alike, a passionate advocate of pursuing the highest standards in every area of education, a member of the Bury Safeguarding Children Board, an active Schools Inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate, and most, importantly an excellent teacher with a reputation which is second to none, Mr Cassidy looks forward to providing confident and effective leadership to BGSB in the coming months.
In his new role as Acting Headmaster, Mr Cassidy aims to build on the successes of the recent ISI inspection report by maintaining excellent standards in every area, continuing to encourage an uncompromising focus on achievement outcomes for pupils throughout the school and by developing and enthusing staff so that educational provision remains of the highest quality. He will be supported by BGS Principal, Mrs Jo Anderson, and by a Senior Leadership team with whom he has enjoyed working for many years.
Outside of the classroom, Mr Cassidy has led a number of BGS international expeditions through World Challenge to places including Madagascar, Central Asia and Central America, seen here leading the 2016 World Challenge to Costa Rica, and cites these expeditions as some of his most enjoyable experiences in education. A father of two BGS pupils and a much trusted and respected school leader with an outstanding reputation in the School, Mr Cassidy takes on headship at an exciting point in the School’s development and has the School community’s full support.
