Welcome to the Bursaries section of the web site, which contains information about bursaries at both the Bury Grammar Schools.
Bursaries are means tested awards based on academic performance and financial need. In order to qualify, boys need to be particularly successful in the Entrance Examination as, to ensure fairness, we consider candidates in order of academic merit.
Parents wishing to apply for an award are required to complete a statement of income form which is available from the bursary section of the website or the Bursar’s Office. This form needs to be returned to the Bursar together with appropriate documentation.
These awards will be recalculated every year on the basis of income declarations in accordance. A sliding scale operates which means that if the parental income increases, then the fees payable will also increase. It should be stressed that these awards are made entirely at the discretion of the Governors.
Please note that there are no awards available in the Junior School or Infant School
The Kay scholarship is named after Roger Kay who was one of the founders of Bury Grammar School. His name is given to the historical award made to the boy achieving most highly in the entrance examination. His achievement is recognised with a book token at his first Prizegiving.
We have just launched a number of Scholarships, aimed at nurturing Able, Gifted and Talented boys. These are available for Year 7 boys only. For more information click here.
Our commitment to bursaries
The Bury Grammar Schools are wholly committed to providing assistance to pupils whose parents cannot afford the fees.
Over the past two years almost £2million has been provided by way of fee assistance, either directly or indirectly.
We provide funding directly from the Schools’ own resources, including funds raised by our Development Office, and indirectly through grants made to the Schools by educational trusts, which through our process are then passed to parents.
All assistance is means tested. Please read through the information contained in the Bursary section of the website for further information including an application form.
