Sports Report: Week ending 28 January 2017

Football

On Saturday all fixtures were against Cheadle Hulme School.

Unfortunately, many of our teams struggled with five of the six teams loosing which made it the worst set of results of the season.

The only team to win was the U13s who took a well-deserved 1-0 lead into half time. They extended that lead further in the second half and went onto win the game 4-0. The goal scorers were two for Ben Holland and one each for Harry Graham-Scott and Joe Bangbala.

Rugby

On Saturday BGSB faced St Margaret’s in two rugby fixtures.

On Saturday a mixed U14/13 team faced St Margaret’s. BGSB fielded an even mix of 2nd and 3rd years. BGSB dominated the first quarter of the game with Michael Bailey and Kian Farhangi-Sabet finding gaps in the Margaret’s defence to find the try-line. Unfortunately, St Margaret’s consolidated and re-organised and turned the tide with solid rucking and set pieces leading to a considerable advantage by half time. This set the trend and BGSB failed to defend against a rejuvenated attack. Special mention must go to the excellent tackling of Henry Dobson, Kofi Teshola and James Bishop who fought valiantly to halt the attack. Oskar Chadderton scored a late try but unfortunately the commanding lead amassed by St Margaret’s proved unassailable and the match ended in defeat.

The U12 team faced a mixed U13/U12 team from St Margaret’s, this proved to be a very challenging task, the game was highly physical and the boys did themselves proud facing up to a much larger opposition. Three tries from James O’Connell and one from Jack Taylor lead to an unfortunate 24-31 loss. This did not deter the team’s enthusiasm and spirits remained high throughout a closely contested match.
