The aim of the Music Department in the Junior School is to foster enthusiasm and encourage a love of music by engendering a musical ethos throughout the school.

Outline of Work

The Music curriculum is based on practical music making. Class music is based on performing work and boys are encouraged to participate in music making in as many and varied ways as possible. The main emphasis of the curriculum is on singing and topics include percussion work, working songs, songs from musicals and music for special events.

Instrumental lessons are available on all the major orchestral instruments, provided by a large group of visiting specialist teachers. Other extra-curricular activities include Junior Choir, Junior Orchestra, Junior Wind Band and a percussion group.

The Music Department is housed in a specialist room within the Junior School, containing a variety of percussion instruments and keyboards. There are also four practice rooms. Instruments are available for hire to those wish to take up instrumental lessons.
