History is about enjoying and understanding the past through a variety of different media and experiences. It offers opportunities to develop the boys’ sense of identity through learning about the development of Britain, Europe and the world. It also introduces the boys to what is involved in understanding and interpreting the past.

Outline of Work

Introitus (Year 3): Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece

Transitus I (Year 4): Celtic Studies, The Romans in Britain and Life in Tudor England

Transitus II (Year 5): The Effects of Tudor Exploration followed by an in-depth study of The Victorians. In the Summer Term the boys learn about The Aztecs.

In the final year at the Junior School the Exitus forms (Year 6) study The Effects of World War II and investigate Britain Since 1948. The boys also explore Black History Month and Remembrance, as well as other current and topical historical projects.

We like the opportunity to include a variety of school visits in the History curriculum to widen the boys’ understanding of the past. Speakers are also invited to the school and recent visitors have included a specialist from The Mary Rose Foundation.
