BGS boys celebrate excellent GCSE results with their families.

There were smiles all around at Bury Grammar School this morning, when Year 11 pupils came in to school with their parents to collect their GCSE results. It has been a fantastic summer of exam successes at BGSB and we are absolutely thrilled for all our pupils who have grades to be proud of. Both pupils and teachers have worked so hard to put everything in place to enable our young people to shine and many of our pupils have exceeded expectations. The BGS winning combination of high aspirations, excellent teaching, a warm and positive environment and strong home-school partnerships has struck gold again this summer….and long may this continue!

Boys are celebrating another successful year of GCSE results with a phenomenal 44% of grades at the coveted A/A* level as many boys significantly outperformed expectations.

The ‘highlights’ are:

  • Nearly three quarters of grades are at A*-B
  • 44% of grades are at the coveted A/A* level.
  • 8 boys achieved A*/A in all of their subjects.
  • Over 70% of boys achieved A*/A in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
  • 84% of boys studying the significantly more challenging IGCSE Maths course achieved A*, A or B grades.

Science has a long-standing tradition and reputation as a very strong department at BGS Boys. There have been impressive departmental performances again this year in Biology, Chemistry and Physics who scored 70% or higher at A*/A.  A magnificent 84% of boys studying the significantly more challenging IGCSE Maths course achieved A*, A or B grades.

These outstanding results are testimony to BGS boys’ talents and focus and to their teachers’ unwavering enthusiasm and belief in them. Everyone is delighted to see such hard-working boys succeed.

Headmaster Devin Cassidy commented, “At GCSE this year our results are very pleasing.   Grades at A*/A and A*-B have exceeded expectations by some way.  One in 5 boys achieved ae grade profile of at least grade A and for many boys, their achievements in terms of these top grades was staggering and indicative of the value that a BGS education adds.”

“Again, behind every boy there is a story which statistics somehow diminish but should not be forgotten.  I pay tribute to the incredible work of our pastoral teams in supporting the boys to achieve these splendid results.  I would also like to congratulate subject teachers and Heads of Department who have ensured that the array of personalised interventions for the boys have resulted in actual results surpassing expectations by some way. “

“Many congratulations to the boys on their achievements: the hard work and dedication has paid off and they should be proud of their successes. I also urge them to remember that there is so much more to an education than simply exam results.  The mature, personable, articulate and considerate boys we produce at BGS will take them far in life and when exam results become just a memory, these personal qualities will enable them to lead fulfilled and happy lives.”

A majority of the Year 11 pupils will continue to study A-Levels in BGS Sixth Form.
