At what age can my child start in Kindergarten? We accept children into Kindergarten form the beginning of the term they celebrate their third birthday. For more information about Kindergarten click here.

Are BGS Junior School pupils required to sit the Entrance Examination for the Senior Schools?No, the high level of teaching in our Primary Division coupled with regular assessments gives us confidence that our pupils are ready for the transition to senior school. 

How many pupils are admitted at Year 7? Places for Year 7 are highly competitive and our Entrance Exam is always oversubscribed. We do unfortunately have to turn pupils away every year.

What form does the Entrance Examination for Year 7 take? There are three papers: English, Mathematics and a Verbal Reasoning paper. Although the examination is extremely important, so too is the interview. We only wish to admit pupils and families whom we feel understand and fully support the BGS ethos and will enter into a positive partnership with the school. We will not admit pupils whom we believe will not benefit from the education we offer.

How should pupils prepare for the Entrance Examination? 

Can we apply for admission at any age? We can admit a pupil at any stage of our Primary Division. Pupils can join the Senior Schools in Years 7 or 8, or at the beginning of Year 9.  Due to our 3-year GCSE course we cannot admit pupils after the Autumn Term of Year 9.

What are the entry requirements for Sixth Form? Applicants are expected to achieve a minimum of 6 GCSEs at Grade 6 or above, with a Grade 7 or above in any subject they are considering studying at A Level. In particular, a Grade 7 will be required in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Languages, owing to the need for a solid GCSE foundation to achieve success at A Level in these subjects.

Do you offer any forms of fee assistance? We offer means tested bursaries to pupils entering at the beginning of Years 7 and 12. We do not accept bursary applications at any other point.  For more information and to download a bursary application form please click here.
